Summer activities
Summer (June, July, August) is the season of sunshine, midnight sun, wildflowers, walks, hikes, bike rides, beaches, fishing, waterfalls.
For those who want to spend their time actively during the summer from the house without longer driving, we recommend cross-country cycling in the valleys beautiful forest to the end of the road, where is a suspension bridge. From there you can go up and than down the mountain with an amazing view. Hiking to a 1100-meter peak, from which you will have an unforgettable view of the fjord and the lake. Exploring hidden waterfalls or take a boat trip to the huge waterfall Mollissfossen. Long trailrunnings for many kilometers without meeting anyone, even to the triple border of Norway, Finland and Sweden. Swimming in the crystal clear lake or turquoise sea or exploring it by kayak/SUP. Visit our husky farm, just on the other side of the road. You can go fishing for salmon in the rivers, or you can rent a boat and go fishing in the fjords. Also possible to go for horseriding, what would be a memorable experience.
You can drive to the Lyngen Alps for a glacier tour or hiking trip to the Blue lake. Or can go to the famous Nordkapp, what is the northernmost point of Europe. You can visit Alta, the northernmost city in the world to see the UNESCO rock carvings and paintings, go hiking in Stabbursdalen National Park, what is home to the world's northernmost pine forest (the pine trees are used to harsh weather and cold climates, which gives the trees their characteristic appearance).
The Arctic Trail - Nordkalottruta is a beautiful hiking trail in the north of Scandinavia, which passes not far from the house. You can hike parts of it, for example, starting from the adjacent valley that runs through the Reisa National Park valley.
Offroad Finnmark is a demanding mountain bike race with a start and finish from Alta, at the end of July and beginning of August. The race is an annual, multi-stage, demanding endurance race of 150 km, 300 km and 700 km.
Winter activities
Winter (December, January, February) is the season of snowfall, northern lights, whales, beautiful colors in the sky, dog sledding, snowmobile tours, ski tours, ice skating, board games and hot wine by the fire.
It usually starts snowing in November and by the beginning of December there is enough snow for winter sports. The lakes, rivers are freezing, what is perfect time for iceskating when there is no snow yet on the ice, this is only few days every year in December. The polar night starts at 25th of November and ends at 17th of January. And that doesn't mean complete darkness. You can admire the most beautiful colors in the sky. There is daylight for some hours, than the sky is incredible blue, pink, orange. And than comes the northern lights. This place is one of the best place fot northern light hunting.
You can go cross-country skiing to the frozen lake or in the Lapland forest (in Storslett there is a maintained track), ski touring in the mountains - a 100% avalanche safe trail starts straight from the house up to 876 meter. You can walk with snowshoes between the snow-covered pine trees, you can go ice climbing on a frozen waterfall, or you can have a snowmobile tour from the neighboring campsite. Snowkiting on the frozen lake, dog sledding with us, building snow house and sofa out of snow... Whale watching boattrip from Skjervoy island where you can observe the Orcas. Skiitouring in the mountains even from the house with pulka or without. In Alta you can visit the world's northernmost Ice Hotel and you can meet the Sami culture. go with them for a reindeer sledding.
Spring activities
Spring (March, April, May) is the season of winter activities in the sparkling sun, ice fishing, when you can go dog sledding without gloves.
The sun comes back, the day are longer. When the sun illuminates the snow, it sparkles like a diamond. There is not anymore really cold, you can enjoy the winter activities without big clothes. Perfect time for families with children.
You can go to the lake to try out the ice fishing. Make a hole on the ice, sit on a warm reindeer skin, and during sunbathing wait for your fish. The brave person can take an ice bath. We offer activities also only with one dog, like sledding for children, snowshoe hiking with a husky. In march you can still visit in Alta the Ice Hotel, you can see still northern lights. Snow melts in end of April - May, a few weeks later in the mountains than in the valley.
The Finnmarksløpet, Europe's longest and the world's most northerly dogsled race, is held in March every year, covering a distance of 1200 kilometres since 1981. The race starts and finishes in Alta and can be viewed. This is a big event with thousands of people.
Autumn activities
Autumn (September, October, November) is the season of mushrooms, berries, yellowing trees, rainbows, whales, foggy and cold mornings, frozen sparkling grass, dog sledding, and hunting.
The forest is shining in amazing colours, the undergrowth is red, the trees are yellow. There is everywhere mushrooms and berries (raspberry, blueberry, cloudberry) what you can collect You can see very often very strong rainbows. It starts to freeze during the nights, in the morning you can admire the shining frozen grass an trees. There is still a lot of days with sun, still perfect for hiking or biking. On the rainy days you can visit the museum in Storslett, in Alta get to know the sami culture, meet reindeers. The whale watching tours from Skjervoy island or Alta starts middle of October, you can go for a boat trip in the fjords to watch orcas. If you want to explore the valley with huskies, book a tour with us, where you can sit an a wheeled cart pulled by 8-10 huskies. In September the forest is very green, we cross a beautiful river, pass small waterfalls. Or you can choose to drive bicycle with one dog. The northern lights are back in September, what makes the autumn special.
Programs for relax
It is an extremely calm place for those who want to relax.
We recommend cooking (for which you can collect mushrooms and berries in the forest), watching the northern lights and stars on reindeer skins or from the terrace, reading in a hammock in the forest by the stream, barbecue in the garden, picnick in forest, campfire on the beach of the lake at sunset, sandcastle building and collecting shells in the fjord, walking and looking around on the coast and in the harbor, watching a movie in the comfortable living room from Netflix on the huge tv, playing board games and drinking wine by the fireplace, yoga in untouched nature next to the babbling brook and chirping birds, getting to know the neighboring husky farm, where you can pet the purebred greenland dogs, the siberian huskies and the alaskan huskies...
With your pet
The house is pet friendly accomodation, so you dont need to leave at home your best friend. You can enjoy the holiday together. Arriving with pets is free of charge, no extra charge. We provides dogbed and pots.
Explore diverse and untouched nature with your dog (that can be it beaching, canicross, bikejöring, hiking, scootering - there are beautiful trails from the house).
You can rent bicycles from us (with bike antenna and helmet).
With children
Children of any age are welcome.
We have a baby bed, you dont need to carry your own.
In the summer months we offer ˝adventure family weeks˝, what means one week full with different and interesting programs for families with children.
Our tours
We live on the other side of the road. We have a husky farm and you can come for huskyfarm visit. We introduce this amazing sport and dogs, you can pet siberian huskies, alaskan huskies and greenland dogs (which is very rare), they are always happy to play with you. You can come with us for a dogsledding tour with sled (when there is already snow) or with wheeled cart (when there is no snow), for a bicycle tour or hiking tour with dogs.
